The G-20 Global Food Regulators Summit 2023, organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), is set to take place in New Delhi on July 20th and 21st. This huge occasion marks the first time the summit is being held outside Rome, Italy, and emphasizes the crucial aspect of food safety, which demands equal attention as food security.
With food regulators from over 40 nations, representatives from 30 international organizations, and 25 international research institutes and universities in attendance, the summit aims to harmonize global food safety standards, enhance regulatory frameworks, and ensure the provision of safe and high-quality food for consumers worldwide.

Prof. S P Singh Baghel, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, highlighted the alignment of the G-20 Global Food Regulators Summit with India’s G20 Presidency theme, “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” and emphasized the summit’s commitment to the well-being of all.

The G-20 Global Food Regulators Summit means to address current and arising difficulties in food safety through a diverse range of activities. These include keynote addresses by international organizations and scientists, technical and plenary sessions with food regulators, interactive sessions with national and international stakeholders, and bilateral and multilateral meetings.

The G-20 Global Food Regulators Summit will witness the launch of several groundbreaking initiatives designed to revolutionize the accessibility and sharing of food safety information. The Food-o-Copoeia, an extensive assortment of food category wise monographs, will act as a single point reference for applicable standards in specific product categories.
Another striking initiative is the common regulators platform called “SaNGRAH” (Safe food for Nations: Global Food Regulatory Authorities Handbook). This far reaching data set of Food Administrative Specialists from 76 nations overall will give significant data on mandates, food safety ecosystems, food testing facilities, and contact details. The SaNGRAH platform will be available in Hindi, English, and six Indian languages, further promoting inclusivity and accessibility.
The G-20 Global Food Regulators Summit will introduce a Common Digital Dashboard, an integrated IT portal providing comprehensive information on standards, regulations, notifications, advisories, guidelines, contamination limits, and the latest developments by food regulators in India. This unified platform aims to streamline access to critical information and promote transparency in food safety regulations.
