The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, with a seating capacity of 34,000, is currently under construction and is expected to be completed within a three-month timeframe.

The modular design is a first-of-its-kind for cricket stadiums, shows its commitment to progress within the sport.

The architectural firm Populous, responsible for iconic venues like the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, is leading the design team for this project.

Sustainability takes stage in this venture, with the grandstands, previously utilized for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, being repurposed for the T20 World Cup venue.

The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium promises a world-class experience for cricket enthusiasts and casual fans alike.

The venue will offer a variety of seating options, including premium and general admission, VIP and hospitality suites, along with a party deck and cabanas.

A fan zone, diverse food and beverage outlets, and state-of-the-art media and broadcast areas will contribute to creating a memorable experience for attendees.

The stadium’s wicket, a drop-in square similar to those used at Adelaide Oval and Eden Park, is being curated in Florida and is set to be transported to New York in early May.

Located 30 miles east of Manhattan, the venue has excellent transport and parking facilities, with three train stations in close proximity, ensuring convenient access for spectators.

The decision to host a cricket event in the USA shows the growing interest and potential for the sport in a market dominated by traditional American sports.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed excitement about the project, stating, “It is an incredibly important milestone in the lead-up to the biggest ICC event ever, with work commencing on the stadium which will be able to accommodate 34,000 cricket fans.”

Chris Tetley, ICC’s Head of Events, showed the importance of the USA, stating, “It’s our third largest market, and we’ve identified at least 30 million cricket fans in the US.”

The ICC plans to tap into the vast sports market in the country, making a statement with the T20 World Cup’s arrival on American soil.

The schedule for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has already been announced, featuring a brand-new format with 20 teams participating, divided into four groups of five teams each.

New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium will be hosting eight matches, commencing with the clash between Sri Lanka and South Africa on June 3.

The highlight of the tournament, the India-Pakistan group stage encounter, is scheduled for June 9 in New York.

The concept of a pop-up stadium and the logistical challenges associated with organizing an international cricket event in the USA have raised eyebrows.

However, ICC’s approach, with a temporary modular stadium, shows commitment to overcoming barriers and introducing cricket to new audiences.

Chris Tetley addressed concerns about the integrity of the tournament, especially regarding the arrangement of Super Eight matches.

He addressed the need for logistical planning and fan comfort, defending the decision as beneficial for both fans and venues.
