The spark that ignited off this violent conflagration was the alleged desecration of pages from the Quran, Islam’s holy book. The accused, Raja Amir and his companion, turned into the focal point of discussion when photographs and videos portraying the purported desecration were shared among the Muslim mob.
The alleged blasphemy, a highly sensitive and contentious issue in Pakistan, rapidly escalated into a Muslim mob mentality. The fury energized mob, numbering in the hundreds, armed themselves with sticks and rocks and descended upon the predominantly Christian area in Faisalabad.
