Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the PureSpeed concept, at an exclusive event in Monaco, just ahead of this weekend’s Formula 1 Grand Prix. This concept is the debut of Mercedes’ exclusive Mythos series.

The PureSpeed was unveiled on a floating pontoon in Monaco’s harbor. Attendees included Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
Design
The PureSpeed features a completely open design immersing passengers directly with the elements. Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH described the concept as “the most direct way to experience performance and driving pleasure.”
The design is radical with no roof or windshield separating passengers from the elements. It combines cutting-edge materials and technology with design elements reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar.
The car features a HALO safety system instead of the conventional A-pillar enhancing safety and aerodynamics. Custom-designed helmets provide a Formula 1-like field of vision.
The PureSpeed concept starts with the Mercedes-AMG SL, but modifies it by completely removing the roof and windscreen creating a modern tribute to classic, open-air roadsters.
This design reminds of iconic models such as the Ferrari Monza SP1 and Aston Martin V12 Speedster. One of the more subtle design elements is the #10 on the front fenders, a homage to the race number of the supercharged 2.0-liter Mercedes that won the 1924 Targa Florio.
The PureSpeed incorporates a “halo” structure inspired by Formula 1 cars, though it is reimagined here as a single longitudinal member from the cowl to the rear deck.
Performance
The paint job transitions from Le Mans red to graphite grey, with a black AMG pattern. Design elements include muscular rear shoulders and carbon fiber wheel covers inspired by the 1924 Targa Florio-winning Mercedes car.
The vehicle draws design inspiration from iconic Mercedes racing models including the 300 SLR and the AMG One hypercar.
Features like the exposed carbon fiber in the lower section, open front wheel covers, and closed rear wheel covers enhance performance and style.
The long bonnet and very low front end with a pronounced “shark nose” are design highlights. Although Mercedes has not disclosed specific details about the PureSpeed’s powertrain, speculation suggests it could feature the same high-performance engines found in top AMG models.
Potential options include the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 hybrid from the AMG SL 63 S E Performance, which produces a combined 805 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque.

Exterior Design
The PureSpeed’s exterior features a striking gradient paint scheme transitioning from Le Mans red at the front to graphite gray and exposed carbon fiber at the rear.
This color choice is a nod to Mercedes’ rich racing heritage particularly the red livery used in the 1924 Targa Florio to prevent fans from obstructing the cars.
The vehicle’s design incorporates several aerodynamic elements including carbon fiber wheel covers inspired by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 car.
These covers enhance the car’s appearance and also improve aerodynamic efficiency and brake cooling. The front of the PureSpeed features a low, wide intake reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG One, with a shark-nose style that exudes aggressiveness and performance. This design is complemented by an aerodynamically optimized hood with additional air outlets.
Interior
Mercedes-AMG has included two custom-designed helmets with the PureSpeed, which they claim provide a field of vision similar to that of Formula 1 drivers.
This feature addresses the vehicle’s racing pedigree and the driving experience it aims to offer. Inside the PureSpeed has high-end materials and design elements including a custom IWC Schaffhausen clock maintaining Mercedes’ tradition of luxury and attention to detail.
Production
The PureSpeed will be incredibly exclusive with only 250 units planned for production. This limited run is part of Mercedes’ strategy to create a sense of rarity and desirability around the Mythos series.
Mercedes has stated that the PureSpeed “will only be available to the most dedicated Mercedes‑Benz collectors,” ensuring that these vehicles become prized possessions among a select group of owners.
Limited to just 250 units worldwide, the PureSpeed is aimed at the most dedicated Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts and collectors.
It represents the exclusivity within the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Mercedes-AMG has yet to disclose the pricing, but the limited edition is expected to debut officially next year as part of the Mythos series.

Pricing
While pricing for the PureSpeed has not been officially disclosed, it is expected to command a premium due to its exclusivity, advanced features, and the Mythos branding.
Given the limited production run and the historical imbued in the design, the PureSpeed is likely to see strong demand among Mercedes-Benz’s elite clientele.

The PureSpeed is based on the latest SL Roadster, likely the SL 63, with bespoke treatment. It is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from the SL Roadster, expected to deliver 585hp.
The car features a unique shark-inspired front end and a prominent grille, distinguishing it from conventional AMG models.
The two flying buttresses behind the seats are reminiscent of the legendary 300 SLR. The PureSpeed’s Halo system replaces the traditional windshield and A-pillars.
The vehicle’s aesthetics are inspired by the victorious Mercedes car from the 1924 Targa Florio race. The red-to-grey paint job with a black AMG pattern and the number 10 on its flanks reference the Targa Florio-winning car.
The flying buttresses are a nod to the 300 SLR, which won the 1955 Mille Miglia driven by Sir Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson.
