On the early morning of July 6, 2024, a mass shooting erupted inside a residence on Ridgecrest Drive, Kentucky resulting in the deaths of four individuals and leaving three others critically injured.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday, July 6, 2024, just before 3 a.m. The incident took place inside a home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Kentucky, a city located approximately 12 miles southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Four Individuals were Declared Dead at the Scene:

Hayden Rybicki, 20
Delaney Eary, 19
Melissa Parrett, 44

Three individuals were transported to a hospital in Cincinnati and are listed in critical but stable condition. They are expected to recover.

The house was hosting a 21st birthday party for Parrett’s son when the shooting occurred. The alleged shooter was identified as 21-year-old Chase Garvey.

Garvey was not invited to the party but was known by attendees. Upon arrival, officers found seven victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Shots were still being fired when police arrived at the scene. Garvey run from the scene in a vehicle.

He crashed into a ditch and was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police responded to multiple calls reporting an active shooter. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Authorities believe Garvey acted alone.

Leah Moore, a neighbor described hearing what she thought were firecrackers early in the morning, only to later see the police activity and crime tape.

Mallery expressed emotion for the victims and their families, as well as for the officers who responded to the scene. Officials reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat as Garvey acted alone.

This shooting is the 277th mass shooting in the United States in 2024. The Gun Violence Archive defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are shot not including the shooter.

Police received calls about an active shooter at around 2:50 am. Officers arrived at the residence on Ridgecrest Drive and heard shots being fired. Immediate police action was taken to secure the area and attend to the victims.

The three injured victims were transported to a nearby hospital and are in critical but stable condition. They are expected to recover completely.

The suspect, Chase Garvey escaped from the scene in a vehicle. A police chase ensued leading to Garvey driving off the road and crashing into a ditch on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike.

Garvey was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Garvey was known to the party attendees but was not invited to the birthday celebration. The party was being held at Melissa Parrett’s home for her 21-year-old child.

The Florence Police Department acted quickly upon receiving the active shooter call arriving within minutes and attempting to neutralize the situation.

The suspect managed to escape initially but was later found deceased after a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation revealed that Garvey had a prior conviction for a sexual offense though there is no evidence suggesting it was related to the shooting.

Initial reports showed that Garvey acted alone and there is no threat to public safety. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting to uncover a possible motive.

Garvey was seen driving away from the scene leading to a police pursuit that ended with his car crashing into a ditch.

He sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the chase. Florence police and Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in the response but the investigation is primarily being conducted by the Florence Police Department.
