Jamie Foxx Sued for Alleged Sexual Assault in 2015

Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx finds himself in a legal battle, facing sexual assault from an incident in 2015. The lawsuit, filed on Monday in the New York State Supreme Court, has been brought forward by an individual identified as Jane Doe, who alleges that Foxx assaulted her at Catch NYC, a rooftop restaurant in New York City.

According to court documents obtained by CNN, the plaintiff claims that Foxx intentionally and without consent used force to offensively touch Plaintiff’s person, specifically accusing him of groping her breasts and genitals. The complaint suggests that Foxx appeared intoxicated during the incident.

The plaintiff, seeking unspecified damages, alleges physical and emotional injuries, anxiety, distress, embarrassment, and economic harm as a result of the assault.

The incident is said to have taken place in August 2015, with the lawsuit filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, allowing survivors of sexual abuse to sue their abusers even if the statute of limitations on their claims has expired.

The lawsuit falls within the timeframe provided by the Adult Survivors Act, enacted in late November 2022, which grants adult survivors of sexual abuse a one-year window to file lawsuits against their perpetrators. This legal provision has led to a surge in such cases, with more than 2,500 suits filed thus far.

Foxx known for his roles in films like Ray, faces not only accusations of sexual assault but also legal consequences under a law that has become an instrument in the fight against sexual misconduct.

The lawsuit also Catch Hospitality Group, the parent company of the restaurant, and various related entities, alleging negligent hiring, training, and supervision.

As of now representatives for Jamie Foxx have not issued a statement in response to the recent lawsuit. Noting that this is not the first time Foxx has faced such accusations.

During the #MeToo movement, a woman accused him of sexual harassment, a claim he denied. The court documents provide a detailed account of the alleged assault in 2015.

The plaintiff claims that the incident began when a friend asked Foxx for a photo, to which he agreed. Foxx is said to have made inappropriate comments about the plaintiff’s appearance, comparing her to Gabrielle Union and complimenting her on a supermodel body.

The situation escalated when Foxx allegedly assaulted the plaintiff, pulling her to a secluded area of the rooftop.

The plaintiff recounts attempts to get away, with the assault ceasing only when her friend intervened. The lawsuit also claims that Catch NYC and its employees were negligent in preventing such incidents.

The allegations against Jamie Foxx add another name to the list of individuals facing legal consequences for alleged sexual misconduct.

Jamie Foxx joins a growing list of public figures facing legal repercussions for alleged sexual misconduct under the Adult Survivors Act. Axl Rose, frontman for Guns N’ Roses, is also facing a lawsuit filed under the same act, with a former model accusing him of assaulting her in 1989.

Including Nuno Lopes, Bill Cosby, and Terry Richardson, have been in recent lawsuits related to sexual assault allegations.

The expiration of the Adult Survivors Act’s one-year window has led to a flurry of legal activity, bringing attention to sexual misconduct in various industries.

Axl Rose’s legal representative has denied the accusations, stating that the incident never happened. Jamie Foxx’s representatives, on the other hand, have yet to provide a response to the recent lawsuit.
