Greece becomes the first Orthodox Christian-majority country to legalize marriage equality and adoption rights for same-sex marriages. Despite opposition from conservative factions, including the Orthodox Church, the Greek parliament passed a bill allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt children.

The bill by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, garnered support from lawmakers across the political spectrum.
With 176 votes in favor out of 300, the bill secured a clear majority, showing a change in societal attitudes towards LGBTQ+ equality.
Mitsotakis, in his address to parliament, told the importance of abolishing systemic inequalities and ensuring equality for all citizens.

However, the support from lawmakers and the public shows a growing acceptance of LGBTQ+ rights in Greek society.
Outside parliament, scenes of jubilation took place as LGBTQ+ activists and supporters celebrated this victory.
Rainbow flags waved proudly, symbolizing hope and inclusivity. Stella Belia, the head of the same-sex parents group Rainbow Families, hailed the decision as a “milestone for human rights” and a “day of joy.”
