On February 1, 2024, in Florida, a Beechcraft 35 Bonanza, a single-engine aircraft, crashed into the Bayside Waters mobile home park. This resulted in a mass casualty event, claiming the lives of the 62-year-old pilot and possibly a resident.

The flight took off at Vero Beach Regional Airport at 6:08 p.m. The Beechcraft 35 Bonanza was en route to Clearwater, a city nestled near Tampa and St. Petersburg, with its landing at the Clearwater Airpark.
However, the routine flight lost control and when the pilot reported an engine failure to air traffic control. In a distressing “mayday, mayday, mayday” call, the pilot signaled the disaster that would happen shortly after.
The crash, captured on video by witnesses and shared on social media, the moment when the plane plummeted from the sky, leaving a thick cloud of white smoke and engulfing the trailers in flames. One witness, Laketa Collins, described the sight as akin to a shooting star.
The Clearwater Police Department, Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department, and other emergency crews were managing the aftermath.
Fire Chief Scott Ehlers reported that the impact was so severe that the plane smashed into one trailer, igniting three others and creating a massive blaze visible from miles away.
The damage had already been done, and the authorities faced the challenging task of identifying the victims due to the fire.

The crash claimed the life of the 62-year-old pilot, whose identity was disclosed. Additionally, there were suspicions of a resident perishing in the fire.
The authorities faced criticism from some residents of the mobile home park, expressing their distress and requesting the departure of police officers from the area.
Clearwater Police Chief Eric Gandy defended their presence, stating that securing the perimeter and aiding the investigation were aspects of their role.
As the aftermath was managed, attention turned to the investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) took charge of the joint investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
The nature of the engine failure, the number of passengers on board besides the pilot, and other details remained uncertain.
The FAA released a statement confirming that the crashed plane was a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35.

While there were no additional injuries or fatalities among the mobile home park residents, some expressed distress at the presence of law enforcement.
The response from the Clearwater Police Department planned to secure the area and facilitate the investigation.
The Bayside Waters community, located near U.S. Highway 19, experienced partial road closures due to the incident.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, and uncertainties surround the number of passengers on board besides the pilot.
Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have initiated a joint investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
