On the morning of October 2, 2023, misfortune struck the city of Ismailia in northeastern Egypt as a huge fire engulfed a police headquarters, leaving no less than 38 individuals harmed. The fire ignited at roughly 3 a.m. local time in the headquarters of the Ismailia Security Directorate, a multi-story building that houses the local police.

Local media outlets, however, later reported that after several hours of relentless efforts, firefighters managed to gain the upper hand and contain the fire.

The Health Ministry’s deployment of 50 ambulances to the scene, along with the assistance of military emergency services, including two planes, highlights the importance of a well-coordinated response.
However, these measures alone cannot compensate for the deficiencies in fire safety regulations and infrastructure.
