The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has recently announced a new set of regulations that pertain to transgender women’s participation in its sanctioned women’s events. FIDE’s new guidelines, which were approved by its council, specify that transsexual ladies are temporarily prohibited from taking part in official women’s events until additional examination is led.
This complete examination is projected to take up to two years, during which FIDE intends to assess various aspects of transgender participation in chess competitions.
The guidelines, set to be implemented from August 21 onwards, require transsexual players to give “convincing evidence of a gender transition that aligns with the legal stipulations of their respective nations.”
