The country is grasped by a significant feeling of misfortune and distress as it grieves the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during a recent anti-terror operation in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. The solemn funeral of Colonel Manpreet Singh, the commanding officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat, has brought the stark realities of the ongoing conflict in the region to the forefront.

Colonel Manpreet Singh, a second-generation soldier, committed his life to the service of the country. He was in charge of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles unit, driving his soldiers with steady assurance in the tireless battle against terrorism.
Tragically, during an encounter with terrorists at Gadole in the Kokernag area of South Kashmir, Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and DSP Humayun Bhat sustained grave injuries, ultimately succumbing to them.
Their sacrifices serve as a stark reminder of the immense challenges faced by our brave security forces in the region. The whole country is grieving the loss of these bold officers who laid down their lives for the cause of peace and security.
The funerals of these heroes were somber and emotional affairs, with thousands of mourners, including family members, fellow officers, and well-wishers, paying their final respects. Former Army Chief General (Retd) VP Malik was among those who joined the grieving families in bidding farewell to these bravehearts.

Colonel Manpreet Singh’s seven-year-old child, Kabir, dressed in camouflage, offered a poignant salute to his father’s mortal remains. It was a heart-wrenching moment that underscored the sacrifices made not only by the soldiers themselves but also by their families.
As the country grieves the loss of these barve people, security forces continue to combat terrorists in the Narla area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri.
The operation has now entered its third day, with no sign of abating. Dronesand quadcopters have been deployed to pinpoint the terrorists’ locations in the forested, hilly terrain of Anantnag district.
The encounter, which started on September 13, has been full of risk and vulnerability. A soldier who had been accounted for missing before was unfortunately found dead on the day the operation entered its third day, bringing the death toll to four.
The missing soldier’s fate serves as a stark reminder of the perilous nature of the mission undertaken by our security forces.

Despite the difficulties and dangers they face, the security forcess are showing unwavering resolve and commitment to neutralize the terrorists hiding in the dense forests of Anantnag. Grenade launchers, mortar shells, and other sophisticated weaponry are being employed to root out the terrorists.

The terrorists involved in this encounter are believed to be associated with “The Resistance Front,” a proxy of the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba. The presence of such groups underscores the complex web of terrorism that threatens the region’s stability.
Anti-Pakistan protests erupted in several parts of Jammu city in response to the killing of four security personnel. The demand for a comprehensive operation against the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir has gained momentum.
