Google’s annual ‘Made by Google‘ event in New York brought forth exciting new additions to the Pixel lineup. The Google Pixel 8 and google Pixel 8 Pro, powered by Android 14, feature remarkable advancements in hardware, cameras, and AI capabilities.

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
- Display: The Google Pixel 8 flaunts a 6.2-inch OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, guaranteeing smooth and vibrant visuals. Then again, the google Pixel 8 Pro features a larger 6.7-inch OLED screen with a dynamic 1-120Hz refresh rate, adapting to the content for optimal performance.
- Cameras: Google has proceeded with its focus on photography greatness with both smartphones including a 50-megapixel primary camera. The google Pixel 8 also offers a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, while the Pro model takes it a step further with a 64-megapixel ultra-wide-angle-camera and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera. Also, the both models come equipped with a 11-megapixel selfie camera, richly incorporated into the center-aligned hole-punch display cutout.
- Battery: The google Pixel 8 is powered by a 4,575mAh battery, supporting 27W charging for quick and convenient recharging. In contrast, the Pixel 8 Pro packs a larger 5,050mAh battery, capable of 30W charging, ensuring extended usage without frequent trips to the charger.
- Biometric Authentication: Both devices offer advanced biometric authentication methods. They feature facial recognition technology and an in-display fingerprint scanner for secure and convenient access.

Google Pixel Watch 2
- Chipset: The first Pixel Watch depended on the Exynos 9110 chipset, which, while capable, had room for efficiency enhancements. The Pixel Watch 2 now employs the more efficient Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset, paired with 2GB of RAM, ensuring smooth performance and responsiveness.
- Battery Life: Despite the battery size remaining similar at 306mAh, Google has optimized the Pixel Watch 2 for extended battery life. Users can expect up to 24 hours of usage, even with the Always On Display feature enabled. Additionally, a quick 30-minute charge provides an impressive 12 hours of usage.
- Design: The Pixel Watch 2 retains the classic circular design, offering a 1.2-inch OLED display with a resolution of 384 x 384 pixels. While this represents a slight downgrade from the previous model in terms of resolution, the lower power consumption ensures longer battery life.
- Health and Fitness: The Pixel Watch 2 keeps on focusing on Health and Fitness tracking. It includes optical heart rate and blood-oxygen sensors, with an improved multi-path sensor for enhanced accuracy during rigorous exercise. The watch also provides detailed sleep quality analysis, now including skin temperature measurements.
- Smart Features: Google offers 6 months of Fitbit Premium with the Pixel Watch 2, leveraging AI to analyze users’ performance and provide insights into their well-being. The watch also introduces a coaching feature to help users maintain their pace and stay within their target heart rate zone. Additionally, the watch maintains its 5ATM/IP68 rating, making it suitable for swimming.
- Customization: The Pixel Watch 2 allows for extensive customization, not only with watch faces but also with interchangeable wrist straps. Google offers a range of first-party options, including the durable and breathable Active Sport Band, the stylish Woven Band, and a sleek steel link bracelet. Notably, the strap mechanism remains compatible with the original Pixel Watch, offering users flexibility and choice.
- Charger: Google has also released a new charger for the Pixel Watch 2, enhancing the overall user experience.

Pixel 8 Series
- Design: The google Pixel 8 Pro features a flat 6.7-inch OLED screen, departing from the curved panels of previous Pro Pixels. The screen’s edges seamlessly blend into the aluminum frame, ensuring a comfortable grip. The standard Pixel 8, with its downsized 6.1-inch screen, is 10g lighter than its predecessor.
- Display: Both models feature brighter display panels, with the standard google Pixel 8 reaching a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and the Pro model capable of up to 2,400 nits. The Pro’s LTPO panel supports a dynamic refresh rate between 1-120Hz, while the standard model offers 60Hz or 120Hz options.
- Camera Sensors: The main cameras of both the google Pixel 8 and google Pixel 8 Pro have been upgraded to the Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor, offering superior low-light performance. This sensor provides a larger sensor size than previous Pixel cameras and even outperforms the iPhone 15 Pro’s sensor.
- Tensor G3 Chip: The google Pixel 8 series introduces the Tensor G3 chip, a significant improvement over its predecessor. It runs twice as many machine learning algorithms as the previous Tensor chip, enabling on-device generative AI. This technology allows for features like Magic Editor, which seamlessly edits photos by moving subjects and filling in missing pixels. Other features include “Best Take” for swapping faces in group photos and “Audio Magic Eraser” to remove background noise. The Tensor G3 chip also enhances general smartphone tasks, such as text suggestions and article summarization.
- AI in Photography: While the introduction of generative AI in photography is groundbreaking, it raises questions about the ethical use of such tools. Google’s AI-assisted photo editing features, including Magic Editor and Best Take, offer powerful creative capabilities but also challenge the boundaries of reality in photos.
AI-Powered Assistant “Bard”
Google integrates its Bard AI chatbot into Google Assistant, delivering contextually aware responses for mobile users. Combining generative reasoning with personalized assistance, Bard enhances the user experience. This feature is expected to roll out to users in the coming months.
