BMW has announced the introduction of a manual transmission option for the 2025 BMW Z4 M40i, a return to the classic driving experience that many have been yearning for.

The manual transmission is a six-speed gearbox, carefully curated as part of the exclusive “Handschalter” package.

Translating to hand shift in German, this package is to deliver a level of connection between the driver and the car, invoking the true essence of driving pleasure. Available exclusively for the six-cylinder M40i variant.

The Toyota GR Supra, the Z4’s manual transmission is the same six-speed unit found in the Supra. However, BMW addresses that each model has uniquely tuned linkages and bushings, ensuring a driving experience for 2025 BMW Z4 M40i.

This follows Toyota’s decision to offer a manual option for the GR Supra in response to public demand. The manual transmission is part of a larger performance package priced at $3500.

This package includes the electronically controlled M differential, providing enhanced traction for spirited driving.

The steering system undergoes a retuning process to offer more direct feedback to the driver, while the adaptive dampers are tuned for a more aggressive driving experience.

The manual version of the 2025 BMW Z4 M40i also features a wheel setup, with 19-inch wheels at the front and larger 20-inch wheels at the rear, enhancing performance.

BMW has expressed its commitment to producing as many manual 2025 BMW Z4 M40i as there is demand. Production is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2024, with the manual 2025 BMW Z4 M40i hitting the market for sale in March 2024.

This availability opens the door for people to experience the joy of manual driving without the constraints of limited production numbers.

A slightly slower 0-60 mph time of 4.2 seconds compared to the automatic variant. The “Handschalter” package is the mechanical realm, encompassing various chassis and visual upgrades.

The chassis tuning is specifically tailored to the manual transmission, incorporating auxiliary springs, a reinforced anti-roll bar clamp, and recalibrated dampers.

The manual 2025 BMW Z4 M40i stands out with its wheel setup and unique aesthetic elements. The exterior features extended Shadowline trim elements, red brake calipers, and airflow flaps on the rear wheel arches. Exclusive paint options, including San Remo Green and BMW Individual Frozen Deep Green Metallic.

While the pricing for the 2025 BMW Z4 M40i with the manual transmission has not been officially announced, it is expected to carry a premium of $3500 over the standard automatic variant.

Considering that the 2024 Z4 M40i started at $67,295, prospective buyers can anticipate a starting price of $70,000 when the manual version becomes available in March 2024.
