UN agency says over 800 fleeing migrants intercepted by Libya

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Friday said that over 1,000 migrants departed from Libya’s shores for Europe in the past 24 hours, out of which over 800 were intercepted by the Libyan Coast Guard and returned back. IOM, which is the United Nations’ migration agency, said that the migrants were fleeing “dire humanitarian conditions”.
