Japan has experienced a surge in tourism in the first half of 2024, welcoming a record-breaking 17.78 million foreign visitors. This influx surpasses pre-pandemic levels driven by a weakened yen that has made Japan an attractive destination for tourists.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the Wonsan-Kalma zone, a major tourism site under construction. The visit is planned to review the progress and discuss steps to ensure its opening by May 2025. This project has been under construction for several years and is one of Kim’s most talked-about initiatives.
On Saturday evening around 3,000 protesters took to the Barcelona streets to express their frustration over the city’s excessive tourism. More than 150 organisations and social movements participated in the protests which included symbolic actions like sealing off hotels and restaurant terraces.
