NASA Launches PREFIRE Mission to Study Earth’s Polar Regions

NASA has successfully launched the first of two research satellites under the Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment (PREFIRE) mission planning to measure the heat lost to space from Earth’s polar regions. This PREFIRE mission will enhance our understanding of how elements like water vapor and clouds trap heat, informing climate models and improving predictions on the impacts of climate change.

Mars Rover Data Confirms Ancient Lake Sediments

NASA’s Perseverance rover has provided evidence of ancient lake in the Jerezo Crater on Mars, on the Red Planet’s watery past. This discovery, detailed in a recent study published in Science Advances, supports theories that Mars, now a cold and arid world, once harbored vast bodies of water with the potential to sustain microbial life.
