Rahul Gandhi, Prakash Javadekar engage in war of words over I-T raids on Anurag Kashyap, Taapsee Pannu

The BJP and the Congress are at loggerheads with each other over the income tax department’s (IT) raids on the offices and houses of several stars including filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actor Taapsee Pannu. Rahul Gandhi used Hindi idioms to target the government for raiding the ‘pro-farmer’ voices. In turn, the BJP responded with idioms, too.

Taking a dig at the government, Rahul Gandhi used the hashtag ‘ModiRaidsProFarmers’ with his tweet in Hindi. Putting out three popular Hindi idioms — ‘Ungliyon pe nachana’, ‘Bheegi billi banna’ and ‘Khisiyani billi khamba noche’ — Gandhi stated what he believes they mean in the current context.

The Congress MP alleged that the central government makes the income tax department dance to its tunes, friendly media gets cowed down before the Centre and the central government raids those supporting farmers.

Hitting back at Gandhi, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar asked Gandhi to recall three more Hindis idioms — ‘Sau chuhe khakar billi chali Haj ko’, ‘Ungliyon per gine ja sakna’ and ‘ranga siyar’ — to target the Congress.
