The number of fresh COVID-19 cases surpassed the number of recoveries in the district on Wednesday. As many as 1,479 new cases were reported in the district, taking this total till date over the 10.5 lakh mark to 10,51,133. In the same 24 hours, 17 deaths were reported; the district death toll is now 17,906.
Recoveries were fewer in comparison to the ratio over the last few days — the day saw 812 COVID recoveries, taking the total recovered patients till date to 10,23,251 in Pune district. At the moment, there are 9,976 active cases in Pune, of which 5,647 are in hospital isolation and 4,329 at home.
Of the new cases on Wednesday, 508 are under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 282 under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), 553 in Pune rural and 136 in Civil Surgeon and Cantonment Board areas, respectively, said Pune district health officer Dr Bhagwan Pawar.
Meanwhile, the number of active cases in Pune city also rose. There are now 2,557 of these, of which 287 are critical. Patients on oxygen support decreased to 422. On Wednesday, PMC conducted 6,707 tests, taking total tests till date to 26.67 lakh, said PMC health chief Dr Ashish Bharti.
Also in the twin towns in the last 24 hours, 5 deaths were reported, of which two deceased are from outside areas undergoing treatment here, said PCMC additional health chief Dr Pawan Salve.
