Pair of Florida pass-catchers crack McShay’s final NFL mock draft

Today is draft day, which means in just a matter of hours, all these mock drafts we’ve been reading over the last few months will be null and void. But there’s still time to get final predictions in, and ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay did exactly that by releasing his final first-round mock draft on Thursday morning.

Florida has two players in the mix to be selected during Round 1, tight end Kyle Pitts and receiver Kadarius Toney. Pitts is practically a lock to go in the top 10, while Toney could potentially fall out of the first (though most mock drafts show him going toward the end of the round).

There seems to be some consensus when it comes to Pitts. The majority of mock drafts seem to think he will go with the fourth overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons, and McShay concurs.

Pitts is a massive matchup problem for opposing defensive coordinators because of his speed, size and hands. Finding an heir to quarterback Matt Ryan is tempting, especially because the Falcons might not draft in the top five again any time soon, but I don’t see them passing up what Pitts brings to the table. He would form a dangerous trio with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley — or replace Jones in the offense if the cap-strapped team ends up trading the veteran receiver.

With three quarterbacks going off the board before Atlanta, McShay thinks it will hold off on trying to find an eventual replacement for Ryan. As McShay mentions, the Falcons could have to trade star receiver Julio Jones, and pairing Pitts with Calvin Ridley would be a nice consolation prize if that comes to fruition.
