Looking at the need of the hour, the driverless mode of transport is soon to be introduced in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to bring in ‘pod taxis’ to connect the upcoming international airport in Jewar with Greater Noida.
A popular mode of transport in many western countries, pod taxis accommodate four to six people per car and are driverless.
The Yamuna Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway will soon sign an agreement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to extend the connectivity to remote areas.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) said that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will develop the pod taxi service connecting Greater Noida and Jewar. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be presented in this regard soon.
“We already have Metro connectivity till Greater Noida but Jewar is about 25 kilometres from Greater Noida city. To bridge this gap, pod taxis are being considered. Pod taxis are a revolutionary mode of transport widely being used in many western countries,” said BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh who represents Jewar in Greater Noida.
