No COVID-19 Vaccine on May 1 in Meghalaya for 18-44 Years Age Group, Clarifies State Govt

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government has informed the state that the COVID-19 vaccination for the 18-44 years age group in Meghalaya shall not commence on May 1 and the exact date of commencement will be notified soon. In a notification, it stated that- As per the announcement of Union Government, Covid vaccination for adult beneficiaries above 18 years of age Is scheduled to commence from 1. May 2021 and online registration for the same has commenced from 28 April 2021 on www.cowin.gov.in. Also Read – 10 Epicentre of African Swine Fever Identified in Meghalaya Meanwhile, the State has placed an order for an adequate number of vaccines with the Serum Institute of India. Pune and its delivery schedule are still awaited. This seems to be the case with most other States as well. Hence, vaccination for the 18-44 years age group in Meghalaya shall not commence on 1. May. 2021. The exact date of commencement will be notified In due course. Online registration for vaccination, however, shall progress as planned. Residents in the 18-44 years age group are encouraged to actively register themselves for vaccination. Vaccination shall happen only after online registration. Further, spot registration will not be permitted for the 18 – 44 years age group as per the existing orders. Further on April 28, the Meghalaya government decided to impose containment measures in the Shillong urban agglomeration, Tura, and Jowai towns from May 1 to May 10. International border trade will also remain suspended for the time being. However, he added that weddings and funerals are permitted subject to adherence to COVID-19 protocols. The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that though educational institutions in these towns will be closed yet the Board examinations will go on as scheduled. All sporting activities have been suspended. He also said that the offices of all private institutions (except those providing essential services) will remain shut during the mentioned days. The non-essential Central government offices will also remain shut; and, the staff can work from home, he added.
