Microsoft unveiled its new “Copilot+ PCs,” the introduction of Windows laptops equipped with built-in AI hardware. This was announced at an event at Microsoft’s headquarters with CEO Satya Nadella.

Copilot+ PCs are equipped with advanced silicon capable of 40+ TOPS, making them up to 20x more powerful for AI workloads and up to 100x more efficient than previous models.
Users can enjoy up to 22 hours of local video playback or 15 hours of web browsing on a single charge, outperforming the MacBook Air 15” by up to 20% in video playback battery life.
This feature allows users to find and remember any content seen on their PC using a personal semantic index stored locally on the device.
Enables real-time image generation and refinement using AI directly on the device. Provides real-time translations of audio from over 40 languages into English.
Integrates CPU, GPU, and a high-performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to deliver AI acceleration. Available from major OEM partners, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung alongside Microsoft Surface starting at $999 with pre-orders open today and availability from June 18.

With general availability starting June 18. Prices start at $999, making these devices up to $200 less expensive than similarly spec’d models.

All of Microsoft’s key laptop partners, including Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer, and Asus, will offer Copilot+ PCs. Microsoft is also launching two of its own models under the Surface line.
While the initial push includes Arm-based chips from Qualcomm, Intel and AMD processors will also support these AI features.
A neural processor in these laptops will enable advanced AI capabilities such as the new “Recall” feature which functions as a searchable photographic memory of all user interactions on the PC. The laptops will run over 40 AI models within Windows 11.
Yusuf Mehdi, the executive overseeing Windows, claimed these new laptops are 58 percent faster than a MacBook Air with an M3 processor and boast “all-day” battery life.
However, specific performance metrics were not clarified for Intel and AMD models versus Qualcomm’s Arm-based models.

Minimum Specifications for Copilot Plus PCs:
- At least 16GB of RAM
- A 256GB SSD
- An integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU)
- The Arm-based models featuring Qualcomm chips are quoted as providing up to 15 hours of web browsing.
One of the flagship features enabled by the AI hardware is “Recall.” This feature uses AI to maintain a searchable log of everything the user has done or seen on the PC.
It’s designed to help users find any previous interaction on their device through natural language queries. Microsoft’s AI assistant, Copilot will incorporate support for OpenAI’s GPT-4o model.
The laptops will leverage over 40 AI models within Windows 11, supporting a range of applications from image and text generation to advanced productivity tools.
The first Copilot+ PCs, powered by Qualcomm processors will be available starting June 18. Models featuring Intel and AMD processors are to follow later in the year.
Microsoft anticipates selling 50 million laptops under the Copilot+ PCs branding within the next year.
Copilot+ PCs will feature advanced Live Caption capabilities, capable of translating over 40 languages directly on the device without cloud dependency.
Enhanced capabilities for virtual lighting improvements and real-time artistic styles for webcam video feeds are part of the AI enhancements.
Copilot+ PCs will support faster image and text generation directly on the device, alongside a more interactive Cocreator feature that offers artistic suggestions and collaboration.
