Meghan Markle Sent a Text to Oprah While Her Interview Was Airing. This is What It Said

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey has been causing shock waves across the world for the accusations the couple made against the British Royal family and why they exited the life.

In the interview, Markle has a no-holds-barrier approach and touches on topics from race to mental health. The two-hour interview is the biggest royal tell-all since Harry’s mother Princess Diana detailed her crumbling marriage to his father Prince Charles in 1995.

Oprah Winfrey carefully framed the interview’s legitimacy at the outset, asking Meghan to confirm that questions hadn’t been provided in advance, no subject was off limits and the couple wasn’t compensated.

Winfrey carefully framed the interview’s legitimacy at the outset, asking Meghan to confirm that questions hadn’t been provided in advance, no subject was off-limits and the couple wasn’t compensated. CBS reportedly paid Winfrey’s production company, Harpo, up to $9 million to air it and, according to early Nielsen estimates, was rewarded with 17 million viewers, an unusually large audience amid multiplying choices.

Meghan touched on several topics in the interview, but while it was airing, she sent Oprah a text.

“Well, I haven’t really spoken to them since the interview because we’re in different time zones,” Oprah told CBS This Morning following the interview. “I got a text from Meghan yesterday saying, ‘How’s it going?’ Because she was putting Archie to bed waiting on the West Coast feed and had no idea what was happening on the East Coast.”

Oprah says she wrote back ‘I don’t either, from what I can tell it’s going well, I know it’s airing,’” and added that she’d probably be having a conversation with the couple about the special later, reports Cosmopolitan.

Markle in the interview accused the British Royal Family of fretting over how dark her son’s skin would be. Markle, who is African American, says her husband Prince Harry revealed his family’s concerns over Archie’s skin tone, as well as the security he would be entitled to, ahead of his birth on May 6, 2019.

“In those months when I was pregnant… we have in tandem the conversation of ‘he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” Meghan told interviewer Oprah Winfrey.

The allegation was potentially one of the most damaging from a two-hour interview in which Meghan also said she had been denied help during a mental health crisis, speaking frankly of her suicidal thoughts while pregnant with Archie.
