The Covid-19 upsurge continued to breach all previous ‘records’ as Maharashtra added its highest ever single-day tallies on Thursday with 35,952 cases. The number of daily Covid-19 tests soared to a new peak of 25,031 in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) on Thursday. Despite the rise in testing, day’s cases dropped slightly to 6,432 in PMR in the last 24 hours as against over 6,700 the previous day. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated steps to start more Covid Care Centres across the city to increase institutional isolation capacity by 5,000 beds in the next two weeks. Nagpur on Friday saw its highest every single-day spike in Covid-19 cases as 4,095 people were detected with the infection, while the day also saw 35 deaths and 1,943 people getting discharged, an official said.

Covid-19: Maharashtra Dy CM warns of stringent measures in Pune

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Friday warned that some “stringent measures” will be taken if the COVID-19 situation did not improve in the next one week in Pune district. Pawar, who is also the guardian minister for Pune, issued the warning while addressing a press conference after reviewing the situation in the district.

The Covid-19 vaccination tally in Maharashtra reached 52,65,462 with 2,14,123 people getting the vaccine doses in a single day, officials said on Friday. Of the 2,14,123 who were vaccinated on Thursday, 10,397 were healthcare workers, 29,160 frontline workers, 34,197 people in the age group of 40 to 60 suffering from co- morbidities, while 1,24,632 were senior citizens who received the first dose, they said.
