Maharashtra on Saturday reported 166 coronavirus-related deaths, the highest this year, besides 35,726 new cases of infection. The daily death figure in the state is also the highest since October 23 when 184 fatalities had been recorded. The death toll in the state on Saturday rose to 54,073. Mumbai reported 6,130 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day rise in the city since the pandemic began. Amid a surge in new cases, the state government has announced a complete ban on holding of all types of gatherings, including political and religious. The government also ordered that restaurants, gardens, and malls will remain shut between 8 pm to 7 am beginning Saturday night. People will also not be allowed to visit beaches during 8 pm to 7 am.
Puppy gulps toy duckling, undergoes life-saving op in Mumbai
Mumbai: An innocuous-looking toy duckling almost cost a puppy its life. The 8-month-old French bulldog gulped the rubber toy while nibbling on it playfully. The toy duckling was lodged in the pup’s stomach and had to be extricated surgically. Currey Road resident Nishant Ramesh Solanki had bought a set of three ducklings for his pet, Max, to play with. The plastic toy, the size of a child’s fist, made squeaky sounds when compressed.
Palghar: Policemen injured in attack by liquor smugglers
Two policemen were injured after a group of liquor smugglers allegedly attacked them in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Sunday.The incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday when a team of personnel from Talasari police station here spotted a car carrying banned liquor coming from the neighbouring Union Territory of Daman, police spokesperson Sachin Navadkar said.
