Jean Smart Comedy ‘Hacks’ & ‘Betty’ Season 2 Trailers Unveiled By HBO Max, HBO

WarnerMedia’s HBO Max and HBO have released trailers for new comedy series Hacks, starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, from Broad City alums Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky; and the first look at Season 2 of Betty.

HBO Max’s 10-episode series Hacks explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance (Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old (Einbinder).

Created and showrun by Downs, Aniello and Statsky, Hacks also stars series regular Carl Clemons-Hopkins and recurring guest stars Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Paul W. Downs, Mark Indelicato, Poppy Liu, Johnny Sibilly, Meg Stalter and Rose Abdoo. Downs and Aniello executive produce via their Paulilu banner, Statsky via First Thought Productions, as well as Emmy winners Michael Schur via Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment and Morgan Sackett. The studio is Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Hacks debuts with two episodes on Thursday, May 13. You can watch the trailer above.

HBO’s Betty returns for Season 2 in June. Based on creator Crystal Moselle’s 2018 Sundance hit Skate Kitchen, the series follows five young women on journeys of self-discovery against the backdrop of New York City’s male-dominated skateboarding scene.

Season 2 sees the five protagonists stepping firmly into womanhood and tackling all the challenges it brings. As they navigate the pressures of adulthood, their male counterparts start to step up, step in, and become true allies, forming a united front for the greater good. Set in the last chapter of 2020, the season captures the late summer and early fall COVID-19 months in New York City, where masks and outside activities are the norm.

Nina Moran stars as Kirt, Dede Lovelace as Janay, Moonbear as Honeybear, Rachelle Vinberg as Camille, and Ajani Russell as Indigo.

Betty is directed and executive produced by Moselle. Alliah Mourad, Igor Srubshchik, Jason Weinberg, and Annie Schmidt also executive produce. The series also will be available to stream on HBO Max.
