The shooting occurred on the morning of September 2, 2024, just before 5:30 AM. The attack took place on a Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train as it was approaching the Forest Park terminal, a suburb located about 10 miles west of downtown Chicago.

The shootings took place on September 3, 2024, aboard a CTA Blue Line train in Forest Park. The Blue Line is a critical transit route connecting the Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Forest Park through downtown Chicago.
The four victims, who were sleeping at the time of the attack were all shot in different locations on the train. Three victims were dead at the scene, while the fourth succumbed to injuries after being rushed to Loyola University Medical Center.
The identities of two victims have been confirmed, Adrian Collins, 60, and Simeon Bihesi, 28. The other two victims, a male and a female, remain unidentified.
Rhanni S. Davis was identified as the suspect through surveillance footage that captured him walking through the train cars and firing shots at the sleeping passengers.
Davis was apprehended later that morning on a CTA Pink Line train and a Glock handgun was recovered during his arrest.
According to Deputy Chief Christopher Chin of the Forest Park Police Department, the attack was a random act of violence. Davis did not appear to have any connection to the victims, nor was there any indication of a robbery.
The apprehension of Davis was made possible by the use of surveillance technology. CTA trains are equipped with cameras, which captured the suspect’s movements and helped authorities identify and locate him shortly after the crime was committed.
The shooter was identified as Rhanni Davis, a 30-year-old resident of Chicago. Davis was apprehended on a CTA Pink Line train at the California Avenue stop in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago.
His arrest was facilitated by surveillance footage. The weapon used in the attack was a 9mm Glock 43, found with six rounds. The gun was matched to six shell casings found at the crime scene.

The entire shooting was caught on camera, providing clear evidence against Davis. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the attack.
The shooting appeared to be a random act of violence with no connection between the shooter and the victims. Davis was reportedly wearing a mask during the shooting and there was no indication that the attack was a robbery or that any altercation preceded the shooting.
Investigators confirmed that Davis was a forensic match to the shell casings found at the scene.
Davis has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder. If convicted, he faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. Davis is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Maybrook Courthouse in Maywood.
Prosecutors are expected to provide more details about his criminal history and the facts of the case during the hearing. Legal experts suggest that Davis’s mental state may be a factor in his defense.
Kim Foxx, the Cook County State’s Attorney described the shooting as inexplicable and horrific.
Dorval R. Carter Jr., President of the CTA condemned the incident as a heinous crime and tragedy. He acknowledged the challenges of safety across a vast and complex transit system, which includes 145 rail stations, 1,500 rail cars and nearly 240 miles of track.
According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), there have been at least 378 mass shootings in the country in 2024 alone with over 11,463 people killed by firearms.
