wo security personnel on poll duty in Satsatamal constituency of Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal were left injured in a firing incident on Saturday morning as the state went to polls in the first phase of assembly election.
The ruling Trinamool Congress has meanwhile accused BJP workers of occupying polling booths across several constituencies of Medinipur and preventing voters from casting their votes.
According to news agency ANI, two security personnel were left injured in the firing incident at Satsatamal, Bhagwanpur constituency in Purba Medinipur early on Saturday morning when the Phase 1 polling began.
BJP district president Anup Chakraborty alleged, “Those associated with TMC are trying to terrorise people in the Argoal panchayat area.”
Meanwhile, in Uttar Kanthi, BJP workers were allegedly attacked at booth number 178. Four BJP karyakartas were left injured in the alleged attack ahead of the polling in Phase 1.
The ruling TMC has alleged that BJP workers have been entering the polling booths across constituencies in an attempt to disrupt the voting process.
At booth number 167 in Paschim Medinipur, TMC alleged that “BJP supporters entered the polling station and voters were not allowed inside. The Presiding Officer is also supporting them.”
TMC has also accused the BJP of mobilising men with the help of CRPF.
