Bajaj Auto is all set to introduce the Chetak electric scooter in the city of Nagpur. The company confirmed the development recently on its social media handles, and bookings for the offering will begin soon. Meanwhile, interested customers in Nagpur can register for the Chetak on the company’s website. The Bajaj Chetak is presently available in Pune and Bengaluru, while the company plans to make the model available in 22 cities by 2022. The company previously also announced Chennai and Hyderabad among the new cities that will get the Chetak scooter soon.
The Bajaj Chetak is being sold in spurts with bookings open for a brief period and in limited numbers. The last time Bajaj opened bookings for the scooter was in April this year, which was closed in just two days as the order books were full. At the time, prices for the Chetak stood at Rs. 1.42 lakh for the Urbane variant, and at Rs. 1.44 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom) for the Premium variant. Prices are likely to see a revision under the reworked FAME II subsidy. The company though has not shared the new prices of the model yet.
The Bajaj Chetak is powered by the 3.8 kW PMS motor that develops about 5 bhp and 16.2 Nm of peak torque. The motor draws power from the 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that promises a range of 80 km on a single charge, which can go up to 95 km in the Eco mode. The top speed on the scooter is around 70 kmph. The Chetak can be charged via a standard three-pin charging socket and takes about six to eight hours for a full charge. It does not get the option of a fast charger.
With respect to features, the Chetak is impressive with its all-metal body, LED lighting, illuminated switchgear, sequential turn indicators, Bluetooth-enabled instrument console and more. The Chetak competes against the TVS iQube, Ather 450X, and the upcoming Ola electric scooter in the segment.
