Over 100 trains have been canceled with many others being diverted to alternative routes due to waterlogged tracks.
The Vijayawada-Khammam route has been heavily affected with train movements halted after a local stream overflowed, submerging the tracks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally reached out to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, N Chandrababu Naidu and A Revanth Reddy offering all possible assistance from the central government.
PM Modi has directed central agencies to provide immediate aid and equipment to the affected states. Home Minister Amit Shah has also assured both CMs of continued support including additional resources and personnel for relief operations.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Telangana, including Adilabad, Nizamabad and Kamareddy, warning of extremely heavy rainfall.
The forecast suggests that the rain will continue over the next few days.

CM Chandrababu Naidu has been on the ground, visiting flood-hit areas like Ajit Singh Nagar in Vijayawada, where he personally distributed food packets to displaced residents.
Vijayawada has been severely affected by the floods. The Budameru rivulet, which flows through the outskirts of the city, has overflowed at multiple points causing flooding in several localities.
The Prakasam Barrage has been discharging over 10 lakh cusecs of water.
The National Disaster Response Force has deployed a total of 26 teams to assist with flood relief operations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
These teams are equipped with inflatable boats, tree cutters and essential medical supplies, enabling them to carry out rescue operations in the most challenging conditions. In Telangana’s Khammam district alone, 110 villages have been submerged.
The IMD has forecasted continued heavy rainfall across both states with strong winds of up to 40 km/h expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh.
The weather department has also warned of possible thunderstorms and lightning from September 2 to 5, advising citizens, especially those in low-lying areas, to remain vigilant and to contact authorities in case of emergencies.

The South Central Railway zone has been actively responding to the crisis by arranging alternative travel options for stranded passengers.
With over 140 trains canceled and 97 diverted, the railway authorities have provided food, water and shelter to nearly 6,000 passengers at various stations. Additionally 84 buses have been arranged to facilitate the travel of those affected by train cancellations.

Districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar in Telangana, and Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive huge rainfall.
The heavy rains have caused damage on agriculture with over 1.1 lakh hectares of agricultural fields and 7,360 hectares of horticultural fields reported as damaged in Andhra Pradesh.
The floods have washed away crops and caused huge losses to farmers. The Andhra Pradesh government is making efforts to reinforce key infrastructure such as the Prakasam Barrage to prevent flooding.
