After 3 murders in 24 hours, Bihar BJP MLAs bat for UP’s encounter model

BJP MLA Pawan Jaiswal has said Bihar should adopt the ‘encounter model’ of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to check incidents of crime in the state. He is not alone in advocating the ‘encounter model’ to control the law-and-order situation in Bihar. Two other BJP MLAs have made a similar demand.

Pawan Jaiswal said, “It has become very important to implement the UP model in Bihar so that such incidents can be curbed.”

His remarks came in the backdrop of three incidents of murders that shocked Bihar in the past 24 hours. An LIC officer was beaten to death in Nalanda. A woman was shot in Patna after she protested molestation of her daughter. And, a ward member was killed in Chhapra in the Saran district of Bihar.

Jaiswal said the vehicles of the criminals should overturn in Bihar the same way as it happened in Uttar Pradesh. He was apparently referring to a series of incidents in Uttar Pradesh where criminals and under-trials were killed in encounters with the police. In a high-profile case, Kanpur don-turned-politician Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter last year when the vehicle he was being brought from Madhya Pradesh to Uttar Pradesh “overturned” and he tried to flee.

Another BJP MLA, Vinay Bihari supported the encounter model. He also said that the police should be given a free hand in dealing with criminals.

Vinay Bihari said Bihar should implement the same means as was being done in Uttar Pradesh to control incidents of crime. One who commits a crime should be punished, he said.
