According to the latest Tesla news, Elon Musk has unveiled of the Tesla Cybercab and Robovan at the “We, Robot” event on October 10, 2024. Held at Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank, California, this invitation-only event by the company’s first major product reveal since the Cybertruck debut in 2019.

According to the latest Tesla news, the Tesla Cybercab, a two-seater electric vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals was the star of the event. Described as fully autonomous, the Tesla Cybercab is designed to revolutionize transportation by functioning as a self-driving taxi.
With a price point below $30,000, it plans to be a cost-effective option for consumers looking for autonomy in their daily commutes or personal travel.
Musk confidently rolled onto the stage in one of these futuristic vehicles claiming the company had 21 Tesla Cybercabs ready for testing at the event and 50 autonomous vehicles in total on the studio lot.
Musk revealed that Tesla aims to begin producing the Tesla Cybercab by 2027.
The Tesla Cybercab is a fully autonomous, electric vehicle designed exclusively for self-driving. Unlike conventional cars, the Tesla Cybercab features no steering wheel or pedals.
Musk announced that the Cybercab is expected to enter production before 2027, with a target price of less than US$30,000.
The Tesla Cybercab has a cutting-edge design with doors that open upward like butterfly wings. The cabin is compact and designed for just two passengers and offers a comfortable little lounge setting where passengers can relax, sleep or watch movies.
The vehicle charges wirelessly through inductive charging, a feature that sets it apart from existing electric vehicles. Musk addressed that Tesla’s approach to computing in the Cybercab is similar to Amazon Web Services, where it is overspecified to handle complex tasks.
According to Musk, Tesla Cybercab and other autonomous vehicles are projected to be far safer than human-driven cars. Drawing on data collected from millions of Tesla vehicles, he suggested that autonomous vehicles could be 10-30 times safer than traditional cars, as they don’t get tired or distracted.
He also claimed that Tesla Cybercab could reduce transportation costs dramatically, as low as $0.20 per mile, making it much cheaper than public transportation options like city buses.
Musk addressed that these vehicles have the potential to save lives by preventing accidents caused by human error, fatigue or inattention.
According to the latest Tesla news, Musk announced plans for expanding self-driving capabilities across other Tesla models. Starting in 2025, Tesla will roll out unsupervised autonomous driving in its popular Model 3 and Model Y vehicles with initial deployment in California and Texas, subject to regulatory approval.
At the same event, Musk introduced Tesla’s Robovan, an autonomous van capable of carrying up to 20 people. Although details were scarce on when this vehicle would enter production or its cost.
Musk hinted that the Tesla Robovan would also be useful for transporting goods, opening up the possibility of autonomous logistics operations.
Musk showcased Tesla’s Optimus robot, a humanoid robot designed to perform various tasks. At the event, Optimus robots mingled with attendees, served drinks and performed a choreographed dance to Daft Punk’s Robot Rock.

Musk’s presentation painted a utopian future where autonomous vehicles could replace traditional cars leading to the elimination of parking lots and a reduction in car ownership.
He explained that people would be able to summon Tesla Cybercabs and other autonomous vehicles when needed. In addition to personal use, these robotaxis could be employed as Uber-like services with owners able to create fleets of vehicles for commercial use.
Musk described this as being like a shepherd with a flock of cars, suggesting that Tesla’s robotaxi network could revolutionize ride-sharing and public transportation.
In 2015, Musk promised that Tesla would achieve full autonomy within three years. This deadline was missed and similar unfulfilled promises have followed.
Even though Musk has repeatedly assured investors and the public that Tesla robotaxis would be on the road, these vehicles still face technical, regulatory and safety hurdles.

The robotaxi concept could reduce the need for personal car ownership especially in urban areas. However, this vision hinges on Tesla’s ability to perfect its autonomous driving technology, which, according to experts is still years away from being fully realized.
Regulatory approval, safety standards,and public trust will also be crucial factors that could delay the adoption of autonomous Tesla Cybercabs and Robovans.
The technology, which relies on cameras rather than more sophisticated systems like lidar used by competitors, they still has hurdles to overcome.
Other companies, such as Waymo, Cruise and Baidu are also pursuing self-driving taxis and in some cases, have achieved limited success.
For example, Waymo has already been providing driverless taxi rides in cities like San Francisco and Phoenix.
The complexity of urban environments along with regulatory and legal challenges, means that truly autonomous robotaxis will likely remain experimental for the next few years.
