Microsoft Designer app is now officially available for iOS and Android. Microsoft announced that the service was driven by OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 model and is now accessible as a free application on Android, iOS and Windows platforms.

Microsoft Designer is now accessible to anyone with a personal Microsoft account. Available as a free app on Windows, iOS and Android platforms. Available as a web application and through Microsoft Edge and it’s now a standalone mobile app.
Users can create custom images, stickers, greeting cards, invitations and more using a variety of templates. Templates cover social media posts, icons, wallpapers, coloring book pages and more.
AI can edit images, restyle them and create collages. Features include background removal, object/person removal and decorative AI-generated borders. The mobile version includes a prompt to use the avatar creator.
Designer is integrated into Microsoft 365 apps such as Word and PowerPoint. Copilot Pro subscribers can create images and designs directly within these apps. New banner image generator for Word documents to be added soon.
Features like erasing objects, removing backgrounds, auto-cropping and filters are integrated directly into the Photos app. Previously users needed to send images from Photos to Designer, but these features are now built-in.
Similar AI editing capabilities will be integrated into Microsoft Edge soon. Each user gets 15 free daily boosts for faster creation or editing of AI-powered images and designs.
Boosts are automatically utilized in both the standalone Designer app and where Designer is integrated across Microsoft apps.
Upgrading to a Copilot Pro subscription provides 100 boosts per day. Boosts are used to enhance the speed of AI art creation.
Users can generate images from text prompts. The app includes restyling features to transform photos into paintings or 3D art. AI-generated frames and stickers can be added to images.
New prompt templates with pre-populated ideas, styles and descriptions aid in image creation. These templates can be shared with friends or other creators.

Designer supports the creation of graphics including illustrations, social media posts, backgrounds and brand kits from text prompts. Users can now access Designer via mobile apps.
The app includes a variety of prompt templates filled with ideas, styles and descriptions to help users kickstart their creative process. Templates can be shared among users to inspire collaborative creativity.
Refined homepage featuring categories for creating avatars, emojis, stickers, greeting cards and invitations.
Users can select a category and provide a text prompt or use available templates to generate desired content.
New capabilities to restyle and frame images using AI-generated borders making it easier to transform photos into doodle, pop art or papercraft styles.
Background replacement feature to create new backgrounds from scratch to enhance the overall image quality.
Designer is integrated into the built-in Photos app on Windows 11 allowing users to edit their photos easily.
The feature is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders providing an enhanced user experience without leaving the Photos app.
Free users get 15 daily boosts to create or edit AI-powered images. The Copilot Pro subscription is priced at $20 per month which provides 100 boosts per day and additional capabilities within Microsoft 365 apps.
The new features are in preview for Windows Insiders in English, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese. Exclusions include Russia, Belarus, and China.
Mobile versions come with generative AI features providing on-the-go editing and creation capabilities.
The journey began in 2022 with Bing Image Creator advancing to the Dall-E 2 model. Microsoft Designer debuted as an AI-powered design tool competing with platforms like Canva.
