Maharashtra minister Sudhir Mungantiwar congratulates IPS officer Rashmi Shukla for becoming DGP, then deletes post

One of the senior most police officers in the state, Rashmi Shukla is the front-runner for the post of Maharashtra DGP.

Hours after Maharashtra Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar congratulated IPS officer Rashmi Shukla Thursday, saying she had been appointed the state director general of police (DGP), he deleted the post.

Mungantiwar’s post on X came after the Maharashtra Government issued an order appointing current DGP Rajnish Seth as Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) chairman.

However, after the post about the 1988-batch Indian Police Service officer’s appointment as DGP started being widely shared on social media, the minister for forests and cultural affairs deleted it.

The Maharashtra Government has not issued any order for Shukla’s appointment as state DGP. Currently on a central deputation heading the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Shukla is the front-runner for the post. She is one of the senior IPS officers in Maharashtra Police.

Even for Seth to be appointed MPSC chairman, he will have to resign from the police force as per the norms followed so far. The process is believed to take some time before he can leave the post making way for the appointment of another officer.
